Formally known as San Vito’s, Piero’s Corner hosts monthly wine dinners that offer more than just wine. Chef Gian Piero Mazzi introduces dishes that aren’t typically on the menu and a learning experience like no other. Each course comes with a special pairing of wine, and guests are seated at large communal tables family-style.
We enjoyed talking with the couple next to us about the dishes and wine. From the very first taste of Antipasti Misti e Prosecco to the finale of Green figs and Zabayon drizzled with Virginia Honey, each bite was decadent and delicious. A lobster bisque sipped out of a small glass had a delightful surprise of real lobster meat at the bottom. The Hickory Grilled Flat Iron Steak was melt in your mouth tender with a beautiful presentation. The Lamb and Sage Sausage was delicious, and although I was getting full, I had no trouble finishing it. The farmer who actually raised the lamb was sitting just a few seats away. Now that’s local!
Gian spoke of a future group trip to Italy and passed around the information. The trip will be in May of 2011 and will be a 12 day tour that includes touring wineries in Piedmont and Tuscany. The entire dinner felt like I was with family, although I had just met everyone. The pairing of wine was spot on, and you have the opportunity to fill out a form to order the wine you like best. My favorite was the Avignonesi Vino Nobile from Tuscany that was aged for 36 months. The next wine dinner will be held at Piero’s Corner on Tuesday, October 5th. Reservations are required, so make sure you get in on this fabulous unforgettable dinner.
