Branching Out

I love wine and cheese, but I am guilty of ordering the same kinds of wine over and over and having the same block of cheese in my fridge.  It is rare that I get to try something new. The first sip of wine I ever had was Chianti, and I still buy the same bottle.

I love wine dinners because they give you the opportunity to try wines you would never think of and see how they pair with food.  I went to a great wine dinner at Piero’s Corner in September, and they served a fabulous meal paired with different wines.  I normally only drink red wine, but found that I am a big fan of Montelliana Prosecco as well.  Check out my experience here.

With friends and family to catch up with, now is the perfect time to break out of your wine rut and try something new.  Piero’s Corner is having their second gala wine dinner on December 14th.  You can also catch up with your friends and try some new wines at The Wine House in Fairfax or The Tasting Room Wine Bar and Shop in Reston.  Both are great places to try and learn about different wines.

When I find something I like, I usually stick with it- hence the years of drinking Chianti.  When I finally branched out and gave some other wines a try, I learned that I had been missing out on a lot of good wines.  I ordered a bottle of Prosecco at a wine dinner and Chianti hasn’t appeared in my home for awhile now.
